The Last of Us: A New Chapter Unfolds
The world of The Last of Us is about to get a whole lot more interesting. Oscar-nominated actor Jeffrey Wright has joined the cast of HBO’s hit series, reprising his role as Isaac, the leader of the Washington Liberation Front resistance group. This is a role he’s already familiar with, having played it in the sequel to the post-apocalyptic video game on which the show is based.
A desolate world, ripe for resistance
Wright’s character is described by HBO as “the quietly powerful leader of a large militia group who sought liberty but instead has become mired in an endless war against a surprisingly resourceful enemy.” This is a far cry from the world we see in the game, where Isaac is a key figure in the fight against the oppressive regime. It will be interesting to see how Wright brings this character to life on screen.
The second season of the show is shaping up to be a real treat, with a talented cast that includes Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Other new additions to the cast include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Schitt’s Creek Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara will also be making a guest appearance.
The game that started it all
As a fan of the game, I have to say that I’m excited to see how the show will interpret the world and characters that I’ve grown to love. The addition of Wright to the cast is a great move, and I have no doubt that he will bring a level of depth and nuance to the role.
The second season of The Last of Us is set to return in 2025, and I for one can’t wait to see what’s in store.
