Minecraft Mania: The Blockbuster Franchise Takes Over Netflix and Theaters
The world of Minecraft is about to get a whole lot bigger. In celebration of its 15th year anniversary, Mojang Studios’ beloved video game is officially receiving not one, but two major adaptations: a CG-animated series on Netflix and a live-action movie.

The animated series, announced through a newly-released video, will feature an original story with new characters, showing the world of Minecraft in a new light. The project is being developed with animation studio WildBrain, who previously worked with Netflix on shows such as Sonic Prime and Carmen Sandiego.

But that’s not all. The best-selling game is also getting a live-action movie adaptation, starring an all-star cast including Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, Emma Myers, Jennifer Coolidge, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement. The film is being directed by Nacho Libre’s Jared Hess from a screenplay written by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer.

The live-action movie is set to debut in theaters on April 4, 2025. As a gamer and a fan of the franchise, I couldn’t be more excited to see Minecraft come to life in new and innovative ways.
