State of Origin Drama: Latrell Mitchell Breaks Silence

The State of Origin series has been filled with drama, and Latrell Mitchell has finally broken his silence. The South Sydney fullback has declared that he’s ready to “give it to some Queenslanders” and is keen to play in game two of the series at the MCG.

The stage is set for a thrilling game two

Mitchell’s chances of playing in the must-win game have increased after Joseph Suaalii was sent off in the series opener, which Queensland won 38-10. The 26-year-old starred in the Rabbitohs’ 22-12 victory over the Brisbane Broncos, scoring a try and setting another up while running 173 metres.

“I’m ready. I’m keen. If (Maguire) wants me, I’m in. I’m ready to go to Melbourne and give it to some Queenslanders. I won’t let the state down.” - Latrell Mitchell

Mitchell’s eagerness to play in the Origin series is a welcome change from his previous doubts about participating. He had considered withdrawing himself from contention for the series opener due to fear of being made a scapegoat.

“There was a lot of doubt with NSW because I’ve never been looked after. I’ve been the scapegoat. I don’t want to go into this camp being the scapegoat if they lose.” - Latrell Mitchell

Mitchell’s concerns about being a scapegoat stem from his previous experiences in the Origin series. He believes that he was hung out to dry during previous campaigns, including the 2019 series when coach Brad Fittler dropped him without explanation.

The pressure is on for the Blues

Despite his doubts, Mitchell is now focused on helping the Blues win the series. His determination to succeed is admirable, and his passion for the game is evident in his words.

“I’ve given everything to NSW, the badge and the name on my back – my family. Not having that protection after, when s*** hits the fan, that’s where the doubt crept in about going back and playing representative footy.” - Latrell Mitchell

As the Blues prepare to take on the Maroons in game two, one thing is certain – Latrell Mitchell is ready to give it his all and make his state proud.
