Amazon Surprises with Live-Action Yakuza Series Adaptation
In a shocking move, Amazon has announced a live-action series adaptation of the beloved Yakuza video game franchise, titled Like a Dragon: Yakuza. The six-episode series is set to premiere on Prime Video on October 24, 2024.

The series will star Ryoma Takeuchi (Kamen Rider Drive) as Kazuma Kiryu, navigating a complex world of crime and familial relationships. Director Masaharu Take (The Naked Director, We Make Antiques) expressed great pride in the experience, stating, “I have poured out my heart, soul, and the experience that I have garnered over 35 years into Like a Dragon: Yakuza.”
Takeuchi was similarly effusive about the upcoming series, saying, “I am truly honored to be given the opportunity to play the role of Kazuma Kiryu, a beloved character and the game series. I strongly felt that I was willing to put my life on the line.”

RGG Studio, the developers of the Yakuza series, worked closely with Amazon on the adaptation, with Masayoshi Yokoyama, head of RGG Studio, serving as executive producer. Yokoyama expressed high praise for the series, stating, “There is no question that Prime Video’s Like a Dragon: Yakuza will become another landmark release for the Like a Dragon series.”
